SAG Awards Red Carpet
I can't remember a red carpet with so many near-misses or outright misses and so few impressive numbers.
Love the color on Jessica Chastain but unless she gained a lot of weight between the time this was fitted and the time she had to wear it, there's no excuse for this very unflattering visible tummy bulge.
Same comment for Idina Menzel.
Jennifer Westfeldt not only has a too-tight waistline but also a squashed bodice... and creases.
If they tried I don't think they could have come up with a less flattering bodice and midriff on Jessica Lange.
Jennifer Garner has a mysterious bulge a little further south, and hair that looks like it went through a wind tunnel.
Noooooo! This can't be red carpet stalwart Anne Hathaway.
Jaimie Alexander in bondage front and overexposed side. Rather than looking sexy, it made me think of the line from the Kevin Kline movie In & Out: "Eat something, I'm begging you! You look like a swizzle stick."
Futuristic bodice on Naya Rivera.
The gladiator look on Jane Lynch.
Ill-fitting leather on Julie Bowen with stiff cap sleeves.
And to show it doesn't always have to be in black, Nancy O'Dell is at least colorful but although the shoulder accent is interesting, it looks like it's about to strangle her.
Sophie McShera in shapeless sleeves on a shapeless yellow mess hauled in with a wide black belt.
Jordin Sparks combines a badly draped front with a too-clingy back.
Great color but another blobby mess on Freida Pinto with a belt that looks about two sizes too wide.
Not a flattering look on Jacki Weaver and the transparent slit is just silly.
A two-toned origami special on Marion Cotillard.
Great color on Lea Michele but the gusset at the bust and the deep ruffle lose me. (And true to their show, does this look like a prom photo or what?)
My first though on seeing this bodice on Kerry Washington was that it was a binder full of woman. The leather bodice has no give, and the lace trim at the bottom doesn't seem to relate to the rest of the dress, especially from the back, where the corset top actually overlays one of the lace ruffles. (Shame - that's 0 for 2 for Kerry on red carpets this year.)
Heather Morris in upholstery material.
Morena Baccarin in a gown-by-committee, I'm sure: "I think we should use an interesting chiffon." "Well *I* think we should use some transparent net." "No, no, everyone's doing high slits."
Jane Krakowski looks like a walking popsicle in this badly fitting, too-long dress. I also think the stiff belt is a slightly different shade than the material.
I suspect January Jones might be moonlighting as a sommelier.
I'd have been fine had Angela Kinsey worn this as a short baby-doll dress but continuing the peek-a-boo bodice look on the skirt made it appear that it was a sheer jumpsuit and they wrapped some black material around her naughty bits.
Michelle Dockery looks a little boring from the front but then flashes some serious side boob and some confused styling at the back.
Once again, the stylists for Ariel Winter have put her in a gown that might look great on Betty White but is absurd on someone her age. Beautiful embroidery on the sleeves, though.
Ill-fitting bedspread on Julianne Moore. Someone needs to take her aside and gently break it to her that once you pass a certain age, plunging necklines are no longer attractive.
Julianna Margulies in her second red carpet failure of the season: a white satin tablecloth with a black hem unevenly wrapped around a black leotard.
Considering how many nice maternity gowns we've seen, there's no excuse for Busy Phillipps to look like a blue whale.
Rose Byrne looks like a boring sea creature in a dull floral pattern with an oddly square bodice, too-long skirt, and waves on the sides.
Worst of the Night: Sigourney Weaver in an ill-fitting Hefty trash bag top and invisible makeup. There were uglier dresses but this was the one that made me think "Is this a joke?"
Jessica Pare has attached overall straps and a black belt from another outfit to this otherwise nice forest green chiffon.
Castmate Teyonnah Parris in a terrifically fitting beautiful shade of violet, ruined by a strange outcropping of material below the knee.
Jennifer Lawrence in a series of interlocking tubes that caused a wardrobe malfunction on her way to accept her award.
Nice color and style on Sally Field but I wish the waist had been a little more fitted - this looks like what happens when you wash a silk dress that you're supposed to dry clean.
Beautiful material and color on Katrina Bowden but the bodice fits too badly to be a complete success.
Terrific color and nice style to the bodice on Alfre Woodard but the bodice and skirt are a bit too large and the skirt is also too long.
Kaley Cuoco seems to like dresses that belong on taller women - this would have been better on someone taller. And between the Golden Globes and this look, she really needs to get a new makeup artist and hairstylist. She looks like a drag queen doing Cher here.
Not fond of the stiff uneven skirt on Amanda Seyfried although the color and fit are good.
Terrific fit and color on Nina Dobrev but a thin slashes at the waist and the back do not a style make.
I like the drama of Claire Danes but would have liked it even better without the matador-like sleeve.
Interesting material and nice fit on Edie Falco and I hate to do this, but the House on the Prairie hair ruins this whole look for me.
Points for interesting fabric but Jenna Fischer loses points for an oddly tailored neckline and too-tight sleeves.
I love this material on Julia Stiles and was trying to figure out why I didn't love the look - I think it's because the bodice is just a little too skimpy.
Maybe Jemma Mays never came in for the final fitting that would mold this square bodice a bit more to her body rather than flattening her small bust but the overall look works.
Clea Duvall suffers from the transparent fad: this would have been fine had it continued the sparkling bodice without the distracting waist panels.
If only the accent color on this lovely and interesting turquoise outfit on Shaun Robinson had not been so close to her skin color.
Terrific color and flattering bodice on Viola Davis.
Nicole Kidman is stunning in this great-fitting navy floral applique winner. If only she'd done something with her hair other than iron it.
Tina Fey looks terrific in understated ruffles with a metal belt to give it some interest.
Great fit and interesting lace overlay on Naomi Watts.
I thought this was the best I've ever seen Amber Riley look but other sites disagreed.
I could have lived without the fur at the bottom but otherwise this is a flattering and interesting gown on Vitalie Taittinger.
Great color and great fit on Kate Flannery.
It's a miracle: Kiernan Shipka shows it's possible to dress teenaged actresses in age-appropriate outfits.
Interesting material and styling on Zuleikha Robinson.
Most Improved: Mayim Bialik in this safe but flattering blue lace gown with silver-accented belt, scalloped neckline, and nice hair.
Best Overall Look goes to Helen Hunt - Nicely fitting dress, glamorous hair, and perfect accessories.
Best of the Night: I love the color, gorgeous material, and fit on Ellie Kemper so much that I'll forgive the napkin tucked into her belt. (Amazing detailing on the bodice.)
Battle of the Bulge
Several unflattering midsections on the red carpet.Love the color on Jessica Chastain but unless she gained a lot of weight between the time this was fitted and the time she had to wear it, there's no excuse for this very unflattering visible tummy bulge.

Days of Future Past
Saw a few gowns that reminded me of what 30s serials like Flash Gordon thought women and villainesses would wear in the future.Noooooo!

The Blob
I don't recall seeing so many shapeless gowns on so many women.Sophie McShera in shapeless sleeves on a shapeless yellow mess hauled in with a wide black belt.

Nope
Why, why, why? One of the best figures in the business and they put Sofia Vergara in an ugly unflattering bodice and a cheesy bizarre skirt that's even worse from the side.A two-toned origami special on Marion Cotillard.
Great color on Lea Michele but the gusset at the bust and the deep ruffle lose me. (And true to their show, does this look like a prom photo or what?)

Oh, So Close

Yup
First time I've seen an age- and figure-appropriate gown on Sarah Hyland - great color and interesting material. (Bodice could have been just a little less tight…)Terrific color and flattering bodice on Viola Davis.
Nicole Kidman is stunning in this great-fitting navy floral applique winner. If only she'd done something with her hair other than iron it.
