ENT Verdict

The news is not good - my right vocal cord is paralyzed, probably as the result of a viral infection. The chest X-ray taken at the beginning of August (thanks to my previous mysterious symptoms) was clear, which is good. The dr is ordering a neck/upper chest MRI but mostly for reassurance, as he saw and felt nothing untoward during his exam.

Nothing I did caused it and evidently there is nothing I can do to fix it. It could heal itself in a day, a month, a year... or never.

I'm still processing this news and am feeling very helpless.
