aaarrrrgggghhhh!
Nov. 2nd, 2005 09:41 amSo, Roto-Rooter came at 8 last night to fix the toilet, at which point I found out they charge $199/hr!!! (They wouldn't tell me on the phone as their dispatch number is national and they don't know what local rates are.) The local plumbers I'd called, who couldn't make it until today sometime, were between $95 - $110. But, as they no doubt count on, they were there and ready to fix it so I gave them the go-ahead. While he was there I flipped through my mail and opened the local Valpak coupon pack, which incredibly had a $30 off coupon for... Roto-Rooter! Even with that, fixing the wax seal plus parts came to $173.
This morning, given my crummy sleep patterns, I finally decided to give up on attempting to sleep and get the paper when I heard it thunk against the door at 5:45. As I stumbled back down the hallway, I noticed a glint on the bathroom floor. Sure enough, another lake, even bigger than the leak yesterday. *sigh*
Roto-Rooter promised to send someone as soon as possible so I showered, got dressed, and caught up with three days worth of newspapers while waiting for them to arrive. And noticed that someone had moved my wall thermostat because there is now a small nailhole next to it and a square where the old paint shows through. *bigger sigh*
The same guy from the previous night showed up at 7:45 and then decided that although the seal had needed to be replaced, he also had to replace the whole "bowl kit" because gaskets were worn. Or something. Another $10 for parts but obviously no labor charge.
Then I got to hang my bathtowel in the closet, restore the non-waterproof pillows to the rattan loveseat on the deck as the forecast for rain hadn't come true, water the $*#@ plants, and arrive at work 5 minutes before my 9 o'clock meeting, which turned out to be canceled.
Everyone else having a nice day?
