Dark Shadows

Not as awful as I was expecting but not great either: the tone ranged suddenly from camp to serious to humor in any given scene, and the supposedly central love story didn't quite work, among other things because Barnabas and the supposed object of his affection hardly had any scenes together. The casting, especially of Michele Pfeiffer and Jackie Earle Haley, worked well. (A cameo of a well-known 70s musician did not work as well and seemed misplaced and far too long.) The look was good, especially Collinwood. The only quibble I have in that regard is the VW van in several scenes: for true verisimilitude, it should have been covered with stickers and bumper stickers (although possibly the owner/renter wouldn't allow it) :-> OTOH, the sound track took me right back to the decade.
