Some of you might have already heard that US Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, R-MN, said on Hardball yesterday that Barack Obama and his wife Michelle held anti-American views and couldn't be trusted in the White House. More damningly, she also said:
There is now a petition online to censure Rep Bachmann. Another video there shows a follow-up interview on Hardball with the editor of The Nation, Katrina Vanden Heuvel, in which she says that Bachmann's accusation was so debased that she was having a hard time breathing, and that's about how I feel.
I really worry about America. The speeches at rallies and the robocalls the Republicans are making seem to me to go beyond just disagreeing with an opponent's policies into scare tactics that demonize Obama. Some of their receptive audience are fringe, but others are average Americans who are now convinced and concerned that Obama really is a violent terrorist Muslim or a radical left-wing socialist. How will they accept him as President if he wins? And I worry even more about perhaps even, Ghu forbid, violent repercussions should Obama win and a nutjob decides that the patriotic way to save the country would be to remove Obama.
"What I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look. I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people of Congress and find out if they are pro-America or anti-America."Story and video here.
