Met Gala Fashion

There's no point in treating Met Gala fashion like a regular red carpet so I've just picked my faves in a few categories (plus just a hint of snark at the end). Those who have followed my red carpet reports in the past will not be surprised that most of my faves fell into the "Swanky" category and therefore the lead designer for me was Swarovski. The outrageous designer title goes to Thom Browne.

Diva

Zendaya (Maison Mariela by John Galliano)

Sydney Sweeney (Miu Miu)

Mona Patel (Iris van Herpen) front and back

Serena Williams (Balenciaga) front and back

Greta Gerwig (Chloé)

Bad Bunny (Maison Margiela)

Jeff Goldblum (Prada, jewelry by Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany)

Barry Keoghan (Burberry) channeling Mr Darcy

The Ultimate Diva: Harrison Ghee (Howie B) front and back

Outrageous

Not necessarily favorites but had to share

Cardi B (Thom Browne and Chopard) - the skirt required an entourage of nine men!

A second look for Zendaya (Givenchy 1996!) - the full effect

Lizzo (Victor Weinsanto) with an Alice in Wonderland headpiece

Erykah Badu (Comme des Garçons)

Mindy Kaling (Gaurav Gupta) front and back

Amelia Gray Hamlin (Jun Takahashi) wears a terrarium

Nicki Minaj (Marni’s Francesco Risso) in a child's drawing of a garden

Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Zac Posen for GAP Couture)

Rebecca Ferguson (Thom Browne) furled and unfurled

Queen Latifah (Thom Browne)

Swanky

Irina Shayk (Swarovski)

Keke Palmer (Marc Jacobs)

Kerry Washington (Oscar de la Renta)

Sabrina Harrison (Chrishabana)

Giovanna Engelbert (Swarovski)

Gabrielle Union (Michael Kors)

Anok Yai (Swarovski) front and side.

Iris Law (Versace)

Nearly nude

Elle Fanning (Balmain and Cartier)

Janelle Monáe (Vera Wang)

Emma Chamberlain (Jean Paul Gautier, called "vintage" because it's from 2003 *sigh*) front and side and top close-up

Kelsea Ballerini (Michael Kors)

Bee Carrozzini (Alexander McQueen)

There's nearly nude and then there's *mostly" nude, exemplified by Rita Ora (Franceso Risso for Marni) front and side - some of the beads reportedly date to the first and second century BCE!

Stunner of the Night: Jennifer Lopez (Schiaparelli) front and back - took 800 hours to make and includes 2.5 million silver foil bugles and beads

OK, A *Little* Snark

Jordan Roth (Valentino) trying a little too hard and looking like he's appearing as background scenery in a play set in a garden

Chloë Sevigny (Dilara Fındıkoğlu and Ana Khouri) as a slutty drunk Marie Antoinette

Michelle Yeoh (Balenciaga) looks like a popped Jiffy-Pop pan

Sarah Jessica Parker (Richard Quinn) front and side looks like Little Miss Muffett if she had money, but impressive detailing

Whoever styled Serena and Michelle did each of them as dirty as their designers. What a wasted opportunity!

I liked both of Zendaya's looks, but I absolutely love her second dress. Fantastic top, looks almost 17th C Dutch.

A sighing wtf to Chloë Sevigny.

Thanks. Some remarkable frocks here I hadn't seen in other sources. Wearable art!
