Why is it that all-male abodes rarely seem to have full-length mirrors around? Are you guys vampires who can only see yourselves in shaving mirrors? Are you afraid that if you saw yourself full length you'd never have the courage to go out? What????

That is surprising, as looking in a mirror (as opposed to looking downwards) gives one a more favorable view of one's, shall we say, dimensions.

We are not vain. We know that our clothes are coordinated, and that our pants are pressed and our shoes are shiny. A small shaving mirror suffices to check the symmetry of our tie-knot, the only luxury in our dress. Thus, no full-length mirror.

Except for the ones on the ceiling.

When I moved in with John, umpty-um years ago, there was one small mirror in his house, in the bathroom, too high for me to use but ideally positioned for a six-plus footer to look in while shaving. Except he didn't, and doesn't, shave. I'm still not sure why he had it at all.

Mostly, we don't actually care what we look like. I mean, men's clothes, even work clothes, are easy.

Solid trousers, and a shirt, we likely only own two pair of shoes.

I think its more of a question of "why do women need to look in the mirror frequently." When I bought my first house, I removed about 90% of the mirrors because I don't particularly like to look at myself.

It's not a matter of frequency but being able to do so at least once before leaving the house, or when trying on new clothes, is not what I'd consider an excessive amount of vanity.
