Tested the waters with a half-hearted joke during my staff meeting bemoaning the fact that there was a convention the weekend after I am scheduled to come back from Australia, which was met with "Oh, isn't that too bad" from my manager. So much for that idea.
Busy weekend ahead: reading from the Torah at synagogue tomorrow morning, dinner at Perry's house Saturday night, Australian Rules football game on Sunday. And of course, even though the rain hasn't really been a factor since I've been here, wouldn't you know that it's supposed to rain off and on all weekend? *sigh* I don't really mind rain on the way home from synagogue, as I can change clothes, but rain on the walk *to* synagogue is annoying as you have to sit there being damp. That's why at home, I'm listed on my synagogue's service participation list as "Do not call during winter."
Australian cultural note: Many companies are having lunchtime bashes at pubs today to celebrate the end of the financial year. People at work were surprised when I said this wasn't common in the US (except in the financial industry) even for companies like mine whose financial year runs from July - June.
