Until we get actual concrete election results, thought those of you who haven't already seen it might enjoy this clip from The Daily Show about electronic voting machines.

Looks like the House is a lock for the Democrats. *Woohoo!* Thanks to the apparent defeats of incumbents in close races in Missouri and Montana, the Senate is amazingly in play as well. However, the result won't be known for some time thanks to recount rules in Virginia, which is way too close to call. (According to CNN, Virginia does not conduct automatic recounts in close races but the apparent loser can request one after the votes have been certified if the margin is less than one percent of the total votes cast.) And as one of the cherries on top, Tom DeLay's seat went to a Democrat *heh heh*

Meanwhile, if I see one more Republican candidate mentioning God, I swear I'm going to barf. Although as Stephen pointed out when Rick Santorum started out his concession speech by thanking God, for once all sides could agree on something!

To provide an uplifting antidote to the chortling and gloating that most people on my F list (and myself) are indulging in, whether publicly or in the privacy of our heads, I thought I'd post this sampling of amazing "animorphic illusion" pavement art by artist Julian Beever. The 3D illusion effects are totally mindboggling (note the people walking around an apparent square removed from the pavement).

Many of you might have heard about an infamous article in the latest issue of Vanity Fair, where reporter David Rose interviews some neoconservatives whom he had interviewed at the start of the Iraq war. It's now online. Introductory quote:
"...I interviewed many neocons before the invasion and, like many people, found much to admire in their vision of spreading democracy in the Middle East.

"I expect to encounter disappointment. What I find instead is despair, and fury at the incompetence of the Bush administration the neoconservatives once saw as their brightest hope."
